“Still no intervention to restore the historic Salerno-Naples railway line

“As part of the historic Naples-Salerno railway line, new inconveniences are looming on the horizon for commuters, tourists and travelers who use this important route on a daily basis. In fact, a further interruption of service between Naples San Giovanni Barra and Nocera Inferiore is expected, due to works necessary to modernize the section. Since January 20th, travelers have been forced, those who still manage, to use replacement buses. However, these vehicles often get stuck in the chaotic traffic of the former State Road 18, which winds between Nocera Inferiore, Nocera Superiore, Cava de’ Tirreni, Vietri sul Mare and Salerno. This situation makes it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to cover the route in a reasonable time, both with replacement buses and with private transport. Currently, the line is already interrupted from Nocera to Salerno due to a collapse that has not yet been resolved and now total closure is expected from 4 July to 1 September for the works planned by the State Railways in the Naples Barra Torre Annunziata Castellammare Nocera section” . “The works, although necessary, appear to be yet another tile on the already precarious rail transport system along this line. The lack of planning by the Campania region has a direct impact on the lives of thousands of people, including workers and students traveling between Salerno, Cava de’ Tirreni and the Agro Nocerino Sarnese. For over two months, these citizens have been forced to rely on a replacement bus service that has proven completely insufficient in meeting passenger transportation needs. In an already difficult context, the absence of an immediate and adequate solution to this series of problems puts a strain on the patience and mobility of citizens, highlighting the need for urgent and coordinated intervention to guarantee an efficient and reliable rail service along the Naples-Salerno line”. -concludes Villani-.
