With a wide-ranging operation conducted by the State Police and coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Modena, a gang accused of criminal association called AK-47 Carpi dedicated to committing countless crimes, from extortion, to threats, to injuries to money laundering and, in particular, the exploitation of illegal work, i.e. “corporalism”. The operation was carried out by the Digos of the Modena Police Headquarters in collaboration with the men of the Carpi Police Station and also made use of helicopters. It all started with the courageous complaint of one of the workers hired by the gang, mainly made up of Pakistanis living in the Carpi area. The essential lines of the events that led to the anti-crime operation were illustrated this morning by the Public Prosecutor of Modena.
The bloody ambush committed on a compatriot last April 7th was also attributed by the investigators to the AK-47 Carpi, probably in retaliation and revenge for a similar incident of attempted murder also recorded in Carpi on October 6th 2022 and in which Pakistanis from Brescia. The Pakistanis involved in the investigations had been operating in the area for some time. Previously they were employees of a logistics company based in the Vicenza area but, according to the investigators, they had placed themselves under the orders of a thirty-year-old compatriot of theirs, transferring their criminal activity to the Modena area, mainly focused on gangmastering against fellow countrymen.
The criminal picture outlined by the investigators is disturbing. The criminal group did not hesitate to threaten opponents and illegal workers – with sticks and edged weapons – towards those who opposed the dictates of the AK-47 Carpi Gang, in the style typical of this type of criminal organisation. One and a half million euros was the amount of fees that the criminal association had profited in a few months, as shown by the investigations carried out by the Modena Financial Police by cross-referencing the data with those of the companies that used the work provided by the AK-47 Gang and on which inspection activity continues. Of the twenty suspects, they were already in prison in Modena following the investigations carried out after the episode – which had wide resonance – in October 2022. The others were traced to Carpi, in the province of Modena, Brescia and Piacenza. It is not certain that the operation can be declared concluded.
