Trani: Fossato del Castello: “Would we need the sea?…”

In the days of the cleaning of the Castle moat in conjunction with the Police celebration in Trani, it was hoped that the opportunity would be propitious to resolve the havoc that appears every day in the Trani castle moat: a painful havoc for the citizens who pass through next door and for more than a month now by buses of tourists and school groups who, after “landing” in that remnant of the pitched battle in Piazza Gradenigo, have been skirting a container of city sloppiness and abandonment. And yet, more than a week after that cleaning, the work remained half done. The impression is that of when you clean and put the dust under the carpet, with the difference that it is not dust but brushwood, tree corpses, heaps of neglect accumulated over time even from the appearance of interventions. There is little point in asking tourists and school groups to close their eyes and imagine that moat full of sea, because the evidence of the neglect is truly embarrassing, just as the looks of the foreign tourists who come here to see the sights are surprised and truly embarrassed. wonders of a city that they have heard of as a pearl by the sea and find themselves faced with pockmarked streets, weeds that split the sidewalks – and at times completely invade them – and a castle ruined like that. And they ask why. Who knows, to cover the shame and to make the castle shine more, the sea would really be needed. Maybe it would be a good solution to avoid maintenance which, when it was done, was only half done. Let’s hope it happens soon.
The visiting season is at its busiest.
