The Rione Rosso brings together the world of the flag in Faenza on Saturday 20 April

On Saturday 20 April the Rione Rosso will host the first non-competitive event in Faenza between the major historical groups of flag-wavers and musicians from the main Italian cities, but not only, entitled “The flag in the world”.

For the event, the Bandierai of the Uffizi Florence, the Flag-wavers of the city of Narni, the Flag-wavers of Assisi, the Petroniani Flag-wavers of Bologna, the Flag-wavers of the Rioni di Cori, the flag-wavers and musicians of the Crossbowmen Federation will arrive in the city on the morning of April 20th San Marino people and some flag-wavers from Schwäbisch Gmünd, the German city twinned with Faenza.

The groups will form a record-breaking team of over 150 participants, also made up of the Faenza districts and a delegation from the Porta Sant’Andrea district of Arezzo, which will leave the headquarters of the Rione Rosso, in via Campidori, at around 3.00 pm to head to towards Piazza del Popolo, where they will perform first individually and then in a single collective moment. In fact, each group will have a few minutes to give an example of their school after which all the participants will come together in a record-breaking collective in the evocative setting of the most important square in the history of the modern flag.

At the end, the historical procession will walk in unison towards the International Ceramics Museum where, at 5.00 pm, the conference “History and tradition of the flag” will be held, during which the representatives of the groups and cities mentioned above will tell the story of their school of flag. Also speaking during the conference will be Riccardo Manganelli who will bear witness to the history and uses of the flag in Siena, and Saverio Crestini, author of the book “The rebirth of the Saracen” and a profound expert on the Arezzo carousel of the same name and its flag-wavers and musicians. Entrance to the conference is free.

The event, organized by the Rione Rosso as part of the 18th edition of the Pilgrim Festival, is sponsored by the Municipality of Faenza, the Province of Ravenna and the Emilia-Romagna Region.
