Regina Apostolorum and City of Aprilia hospitals: the colorectal cancer prevention campaign begins

After the great participation of users gathered in February, the new colorectal cancer prevention campaign starts today at the group’s facilities in Lazio Lifenet and seven specialist clinics Synlab Group.

The initiative, once again sponsored by the municipalities of Aprilia and Albano Laziale and supported by Italian Federation of General Practitioners of Lazio, provides a free test for occult blood in the stool on three different samples and in case of a positive result on at least one of the three samples, a free specialist surgical visit at theRegina Apostolorum Hospital.

The campaign is aimed at men and women aged 40 and over and will remain active until Saturday 18 May. To join, no reservation or medical prescription is required: just collect a small stool sample for 3 days using 3 different containers and deliver them all together to the sampling rooms of the Regina Apostolorum Hospital in Albano Laziale, of the City of Aprilia Hospital , or at the Synlab Mycete, IV Miglio, Centro Diagnostico Eur, Medilab, Torrenova, Immunolab and Proda Russolillo clinics, from Monday to Saturday, from 10.30 to 12.00.

The test, carried out in a laboratory in a sterile environment, consists of looking for traces of blood not visible to the naked eye in the feces, which can be symptomatic of pathologies at the gastric and intestinal level. It is therefore a preventive test, capable of providing an early diagnosis of any tumors, especially colorectal cancer, dysplasia or other anomalies.

According to the AIOM report “Cancer numbers in Italy 2022”, colorectal cancers are the third neoplasm in men and the second in women: 48,100 new cases were recorded in 2022the (26,000 in men and 22,100 in women, up compared to 2020 by +1.5% and +1.6% respectively). It is estimated that the net survival 5 years after diagnosis of the disease is 65% in men and 66% in women, a figure that increases by more than 10 percentage points in cases of early diagnosis.
