Crotone – The tradition of “sepulchres” (actually they are called Altars of the Reposition) is very old, but over time it has been preserved especially in cities where the Holy Week is particularly heartfelt.
This is the case of Crotone where this year too there was a huge turnout of people Old Town, since it is here that the three churches are located, the Immacolata, Santa Chiara and Santa Maria Prothospataris, where at the end of the Mass on Holy Thursday the Altars of the Reposition were set up for prayer, which can also be visited this morning.
In common language, we said, the altars of the Reposition they are called “tombs” especially in the countries of the South, where the custom of “going to see the tombs” means visiting the altars of Christ which are set up in the various parishes. Those who visit the “tombs”, at that moment, are going to find Jesus Eucharist, living presence. So there is no tomb (among other things, Christ’s death is on Good Friday).
