Easter in Umbria: all the scheduled events

Assisi The community of friars of the sacred convent of San Francesco in Assisi prepares for the Easter Triduum with a celebration in the basilica of San Francesco. In a moment marked by challenges, the community feels the urgency of proposing fraternity with simplicity and authenticity. International celebrations include the Maundy Thursday mass, the Good Friday liturgical action and the vigil of Christ’s resurrection, with readings and prayers in different languages. The audience will live the experience together with the participants and will be transported into the story through evocative music and readings from the Gospels. There will be over 130 people in costume and the park will become a living theatre, offering a unique and spectacular experience. Montefalco The municipality of Montefalco celebrates Easter with the ‘Terre del Sagrantino’ event, offering three days of food and wine, cultural and recreational experiences. The event is organized by the association The Sagrantino road and financed by Gal Valle Umbria and Sibillini and includes a market exhibition of local products, cooking workshops, tastings, shows, guided walks and much more. The inauguration of the exhibition market and the new exhibition hall of Sant’Agostino will be presided over by the president of the Umbria Region, Donatella Tesei. Visitors will be able to participate in a variety of activities, including guided tours of Perugino’s nativity, excursions through the vineyards, urban treks and local wine tastings. The event will culminate with an Easter breakfast in the square and the traditional ‘ciuccetta race’ in the afternoon. Montone On Sunday 31 March in Piazzetta del Rcontro in the municipality of Montone at 10 am the traditional Easter breakfast will be held with Easter cake and blessed wine, for the occasion everyone will bring a colored hard-boiled egg to play the game of ‘Toccio’. A tournament for the Malatesta di Montone archers will follow at 4.30 pm in Piazzale San Francesco. At 5.30 pm, in Piazza Fortebraccio, Dodo the castle jester will perform in the show ‘De loco in loco errando’. Finally, at 6.00 pm again in the church of San Francesco, there will be the ‘Stigma’ concert by the Fortebraccio choir directed by Francesco Fulvi.

Pietralunga Like every year, the municipality of Pietralunga organizes the ‘tocciata’ and traditional games in the square on Easter day, starting from 9am until 12.30pm. A popular traditional game that is fun for the locals and unique in its kind for those who are on holiday in the small town, especially with children.

Spoleto In the municipality of Spoleto, on the occasion of the Easter Monday holiday, the market exhibition set up in Viale Trento e Trieste by ‘L’arte e la Terra’ returns. There will be around 80 commercial operators present who will display particular products and a large variety of goods from 8am to 8pm. On the occasion of the fair, many shops will be open, in order to guarantee visitors a varied commercial offer.

Terni The Cospea village of Terni celebrates Easter Monday with the special presence of Francesco Arca, actor and author of the recent biographical novel ‘Basta che returning’. On Monday, April 1st at 5pm, fans will have the opportunity to take photos with him. The event coincides with the release of his book, celebrated with a dedicated showcase in the Mondadori store in the shopping centre. The village will welcome the artist with an Easter theme, including a large bright Easter egg at the entrance, creating an evocative atmosphere. Also in the municipality of Terni, Caos (Siri factory arts centre) celebrates the Easter holidays with various activities and initiatives. The museum center will be open on Sunday 31 March and Monday 1 April, offering museum activities for children, adults and families. The ‘Tracce’ exhibition by Elisabetta Di Sopra will remain open until 7 April in the Ronchini project room. The diocese of Terni-Narni-Amelia has announced the program of Holy Week celebrations, led by the bishop Msgr. Francesco Antonio Soddu. The celebrations include the washing of the feet in the district house of Terni on Holy Thursday, the passion of the Lord and the procession of the dead Christ on Good Friday, and the Easter vigil on Holy Saturday. Easter Sunday will be marked by masses in the co-cathedrals of Narni and Amelia. The bishop urges reflection on Easter as a passage from death to life and from darkness to light, inviting solidarity and peace. Todi In the municipality of Todi on Monday 1st April the traditional Easter concert will be held at the temple of Santa Maria della Consolazione, a collaboration between Archeoclub Todi and Etab. The start is scheduled for 6pm and the soprano Laura Toppetti will perform, accompanied by the violin Paolo Falcioni.
