The investment for the equipment and installation of the new systems, capable of pinching wild motorists who run a red light, amounts to 235,757.36 euros. The intelligent devices will detect the license plates of vehicles, including those of motorbikes and scooters, which do not respect the red light, which stop beyond the white stop line or which pass at particularly high speed. «We purchased them with a company that built them in the city of Monza – announces Galdi – there will be 7 systems from via Santoro to via Lungomare Marconi, they are made up of a series of sensors and have remote control from the mobility sector». The municipal administration’s measure goes in the direction of strengthening road safety, precisely in a section of the city dealing with notable accidents and speeding.
On Lungomare Marconi the mobile speed camera has already been in operation for a year and a half and is periodically activated by the local police to enforce the travel limit of 40 kilometers per hour. On the occasion of a recent check, there was a notable decrease in reports of exceeding the speed limit, as witnessed by the local police. Around 40% fewer fines, confirming that something is changing in the civic conscience of Salerno drivers. Since the beginning of the year on Lungomare Marconi there are 39 fines for exceeding the speed limit, 220 fines between 2022 and 2024 between Lungomare Marconi and viale Unità d’Italia.
