“The Largo Erfurt area is increasingly degraded and neglected”

The Largo Erfurt area is increasingly degraded and neglected. The cameras and the local police station, despite the promises, are waiting to arrive and the close proximity to the Betting Center in Via Calciati doesn’t help”. These are the reasons behind a written question presented by Sara Soresi, group leader of the Brothers of Italy in the City Council.

At least weekly – observes Soresi – the inhabitants witness fights involving those who usually frequent the public gardens on site. A brawl that occurred during the afternoon dates back to just a week ago and saw the intervention of the police. Public gardens are habitually frequented by people who take narcotic and/or alcoholic substances, who relieve themselves on the plants or walls or benches present and, unfortunately, also act as a place for drug dealing, both during the day and at night. This situation makes residents afraid to leave their homes, especially in the evening but often also during the day”.

Many inhabitants of the Largo Erfurt area are exasperated by the situation and strongly hope for any intervention that could lead to an improvement in the area. The Administration had announced the opening of a local police station right in Largo Erfurt, as well as the activation of cameras in the nearby gardens, yet – to date – neither the cameras nor the station seem to have seen the light”.

The group leader continues: “In the immediate vicinity there is a betting centre, in Via Calciati, which, as often happens, also attracts many disadvantaged people. This Centre, among other things, does not appear to respect the minimum distance of 500 m required by regional legislation (L. 5/2013) from the nearest sensitive place (for example, Corpus Domini Church)”.

For these reasons, Soresi – with the question – asks whether it is the Administration’s intention to verify compliance with the minimum distance of 500 m required by regional legislation between the above-mentioned betting center and sensitive places present on site and whether it is the Administration’s intention ensure the immediate installation of cameras in the gardens located in the Largo Erfurt area. Finally, the group leader asks to know the reasons why the announced opening of the Local Police Station in the Largo Erfurt area was postponed as well as an indication of a certain opening date.
