Saturday 18 May in Bergamo will be a day dedicated to Match for Lifethe initiative that Admo implements to raise awareness and typify potential bone marrow donors. Anyone aged between 18 and 35, in good health and weighing at least 50 kg, will be able to go to Piazza Cavour from 8am to 6pm and register with Admo (Bone Marrow Donors Association) after having undergone the blood tests necessary for recruitment.
In particular, you must undergo either salivary or blood sampling. For the first, fasting is not required, while for the second, you must not have kissed, drank or smoked at least an hour before the blood sample. Last year, in Bergamo during this event, 64 young people made this choice which can change the destiny of those who need to receive a new marrow and of the entire emotional sphere that surrounds it.
During 2023, in the province of Bergamo, 12 people from Bergamo donated their cells. In total, 198 people from Bergamo reached the goal of actual donation. There are 41 million Admo members worldwide – 496,754 in Italy and 130 thousand in Lombardy. In the Province of Bergamo there are 17,140, not enough to satisfy the demand of all leukemia patients.
