The polls for the European elections closed at 11pm on Sunday 10 June. The latest update available see Brothers of Italy in the lead with 28.1%, followed by PD with 24.03%, a result that consolidates Elly Schlein’s leadership. The 5 Star Movement did not do well, falling to 9.96%; The League also did poorly (9.10%) and was overtaken by Forza Italia (9.70%), a result that could overturn the balance within the government coalition.
An unexpected result for Alleanza Verdi Sinistra, which far exceeds the threshold of 4%, settling at around 6.65%. On the contrary, United States of Europe (with Italia Viva and Più Europa) and Action do not reach 4%, remaining excluded from Parliament.
The results in Emilia-Romagna
By narrowing the view on the data of theEmilia Romagna, which is part of the North East constituency, the proportion between the two parties is reversed: the PD leads with 36.11%, while Fratelli d’Italia reached 28.02%. Followed by the M5S at 7.17% and the Alleanza Verdi Sinistra at 6.53%. In the Region, the order is reversed on the right with the League (6.48%) ahead of Forza Italia (6.11%).
In the province of only Ravenna, voters prefer the PD (38%), followed by Fratelli d’Italia (27%). Also to Forlì-Cesena the PD is in front with 36.20%, followed by Fratelli d’Italia at 30.11%. Unlike the other provinces of Romagna, Rimini it is in line with the national figure which sees the Brothers of Italy ahead with 32.88% and the Democratic Party second with 31.33%. The regional capital, Bolognaa historic red stronghold, sees the PD at 40.28% and FdI at 24.52%.
Turnout in the European elections
Overall, turnout stopped at 48.21%, while in the North East constituency it was 52.58%. In Ravenna, voter turnout reached 58.16% (compared to 67.10% in the previous electoral round), confirming the downward trend at a national level.
