FASANO – Maxi-emergency in the Fasano area: 150 students and professors, on a school trip from Sicily, involved with gastro-intestinal symptoms (abdominal pain with vomiting, diarrhea and hyperpyrexia). First emergency call to the 118 Operations Center at 5.10pm yesterday 27 March. Four 118 Brindisi ambulances were sent plus two support ambulances (Locorotondo and Alberobello) requested from the Bari Operations Centre.
All symptomatic patients were treated at the scene of the event in the functional PMA set up in the premises of the facility where they were staying. Yesterday evening, 6 patients were “centralized” and treated in the Ppit of Fasano and 2 in the emergency room of Ostuni. This morning another 5 patients were taken to the Ppit in Fasano and 3 to the emergency department in Ostuni for a total of 16 patients. The maxi-emergency ended around 11.30 with the return to Sicily of the 3 buses, except for the 8 patients currently managed in Fasano and Ostuni, whose return to Sicily is expected in the early afternoon.
The update was provided by the director of 118 Brindisi, Massimo Leone, present on site yesterday.
The Prevention Department Services are currently carrying out checks on epidemiological aspects and food safety to identify any related causes.
