Agents of the Flying Squad of Palermo yesterday carried out a precautionary custody order in prison, issued by the investigating judge of the court of the Sicilian capital, against five people, held responsible, in various capacities, for theft and aggravated robbery, extortion, receiving stolen goods, possession and illegal possession of a firearm.

The investigations began after a robbery carried out on 4 February 2023 in a supermarket in via Roccazzo. Four of them, armed and with their faces covered, broke into the business and, after threatening the employees, had the proceeds, approximately 2,870 euros, handed over to them. Having taken the money, they fled, reaching an accomplice who was waiting for them in a car with a covered license plate. The analysis of the images from the various video surveillance systems inside and outside the supermarket made it possible to identify the members of the gang.

“The investigative activities and the technical monitoring – explain the Palermo Police Headquarters – have made it possible, among other things, to create a very serious circumstantial framework against the suspects, who would be held responsible, in addition to the armed robbery, also for the consumption of car thefts, which were then subjected to the so-called ‘return horse’ extortion technique”.
