“We regret having to note that all our appeals have so far fallen on deaf ears. We asked for a meeting with the President of the Region, Renato Schifani, recalling the spirit of institutional collaboration in order to identify a solution to stem the extra costs on energy and waste that are tying up municipal budgets, but to date we have not received any response.
Councilors Falcone and Di Mauro had assured us that, after having “accepted the cry for help from the Sicilian mayors and the ANCI”, they would refinance the aid to the municipalities to compensate for the increases in costs following the transfer of waste abroad . They had also confirmed the allocation of 60 million to secure the budgets of local administrations and, above all, to avoid increases in taxes paid by citizens. But these promises were not followed up. We regret having to underline it in the press, but we are one step away from default and a general increase in taxes and we remain disoriented by the silence of the regional government”.
These are the conclusions of the Regional Council of ANCI Sicily which met yesterday and renewed the request for a meeting with the President of the Region.
“In the absence of a prompt response – concluded the president of the Association of Sicilian Municipalities, Paolo Amenta – we will implement protest initiatives without excluding permanent mobilization to prevent the critical issues we have highlighted from being resolved, as usual, by putting the hands in the pockets of citizens”.
