As part of a broader and more detailed strategy conducted by the State Police aimed at combating the phenomenon of scams carried out against vulnerable victims who have been affecting the Reggio Calabria area for several months, as documented by the numerous reports received (even within the same day) at 112 NUE, on 25 March 2024 the Agents of the Flying Squad of Reggio Calabria , with the help of the Sala Consilina Traffic Police, have reported two women of Campania origin recognized as the material authors, in collaboration with other currently unknown subjects, of one aggravated fraud committed against a 62 year old female resident in Reggio Calabria.
The modus operandi used by scammers is the recurring one: after taking telephone contacts with the victimpretending to commission of a road accident by her sonthey asked sum of money or, alternatively dei jewelsto avoid it imprisonment.
In this case, the victim had been reached by the scammers both on his home telephone number and by a elusive Marshal of the Carabinieri which represented to him what happened, which on the mobile number, from the alleged lawyer of the person injured in the road accidentwho offered him compensation for the damage, in the form of a sum of money or possible jewels.
The woman at that point delivered the amount in cash equal to 4,100 euros as well as precious for a weight corresponding to 350 gr to one of the two women, who went to the victim’s home.
