Foggia. From the expansion of the waiting room to the strengthening of surveillance activities, from the promotion of initiatives to limit improper access to the launch of a psychological consultancy service for users and operators. These are some of the interventions prepared by the strategic management of the Foggia Polyclinic to prevent attacks in the emergency room and offer a better service to citizens.
The topic was at the center of a meeting held in recent days in the Foggia Polyclinic: attended by the president of the Foggia Medical Association Pierluigi Nicola De Paolis, the administrative director of the Polyclinic Elisabetta Espositothe director of the emergency room Paola Caporaletti, Cristina Sponzilli of the health management and representatives of all the trade unions.
“Some interventions – explains the general director of the Polyclinic, Giuseppe Pasqualone – have already been completed: the waiting room has been enlarged, making the environment more welcoming. We are activating a new video surveillance system which still protects privacy by obscuring the faces of the people filmed, and we are evaluating from a technical point of view the addition of a monitor dedicated to the emergency room in the control room. As agreed with the Prefecture and Police Headquarters – continues Pasqualone – the security guards have gone from four to five per shift, for a total of 25 guards: one will be present at the pedestrian entrance in via Perosi to indicate to users the route to access the clinics. Still in via Perosi we are also reorganizing the external road system for the entrance of ambulances and any accompanying cars”.
As regards the legislative aspect regarding attacks on healthcare personnel, posters will be installed in the access areas to the DEU with a summary of the regulatory provisions and an indication of the sanctions envisaged: it must be remembered that to proceed against the attackers the victim’s complaint is no longer necessary because the legislator has provided for ex officio prosecution.
The general director Pasqualone adds that “the primary Caporaletti and her team, in collaboration with the director of the 118 center Stefano Colelli, will make citizens aware, with a communication campaign, of the function of the emergency room, its organization and in which cases it is necessary to contact this service”.
Furthermore, procedures have been started to hire a psychologist specialized in the management of emotions who will be able to help not only patients and family members but also the healthcare workers in the emergency room subjected to constant psychophysical stress. Training events on effective communication and conflict resolution techniques will be dedicated to the latter.
