Ferrari test, in action with the advanced mudflaps at Fiorano

First day on track for Ferrari, of the two scheduled at Fiorano. While waiting for the “revealing” filming day of the innovations that will be brought to the track in Imola, on the SF-24, the 2022 single-seater is running in a special configuration.

The work is aimed at verifying the effectiveness of anti-spray devices that the FIA has been developing since last year. The tests conducted in 2023 did not give the hoped-for benefits and, at Fiorano, much more eye-catching and enveloping fairings appeared around the wheels of the F1-75.

Shwartzman and Bearman on the track

Judging from the shots of the cloud of water behind the single-seater, there doesn’t seem to be much progress, even considering the small quantity of water present on the track. Behind the F1-75 laboratory, an SF-24 entrusted to Oliver Bearman. It is Robert Shwartzman, however, in action on the F1-75 equipped with fenders.

Beyond the aesthetic aspectjudging by the spray raised on an artificially wetted runway, the problem of suspended water, with limitations on visibility, persists.

The idea on which the FIA technical group has been working for over a year is that of develop anti-spray devices to be installed on single-seaters in specific wet racing conditionsto allow the race to proceed smoothly, rather than proceeding behind the Safety Car or, worse, waiting for the rain on the circuit to reduce.
