The project for the recovery of the Lucchesi wrestling gym, one of the places where the 2023 flood proved to be most devastating, is in black and white. After the first safety measures carried out last year, for a total of 75 thousand euros – focused on the removal of the various layers of sheathing present in the secretariat and changing rooms area, followed by an initial waterproofing of the area – it is now the turn of an intervention of a more construction nature, for an amount of 210 thousand euros. What everyone in Faenza calls ‘the gym of Greco-Roman wrestling’ (in reality various other disciplines are also practiced here, including wrestling and judo) is one of the beating hearts of Faenza sport: athletes capable of winning Olympic medals (Andrea Minguzzi, Vincenzo Maenza, Gian Matteo Ranzi, Ercole Gallegati), world championships (Franco Benedetti succeeded in ’53, in the edition held in Naples) and European medals (the last one was Daigoro Timoncini in 2019): the Last year’s flood greatly affected the volunteers who arrived here due to the quantity of medals and trophies that had been overwhelmed by the water. The operations are aimed above all at the roofs, where the refinishing, waterproofing and insulation are planned, for an amount of 44 thousand euros.
“The choice to opt for a covering with a sloping metal element – we read in the ordinance – will on the one hand allow for optimal maintenance management and on the other will make it possible, in the near future, to connect a photovoltaic system for of the sports structure, in analogy to the previous asbestos removal intervention on the gym”. Also in the field are interventions for the changing rooms, for a total of 82 thousand euros: with the renewal of the electrical system (starting from the general panels and sub-panels relating to the area of interest, up to the renovation of light points, sockets and switches in the changing room area), water-sanitary systems, those for mechanical ventilation and heating. Unfortunately, the wrestling gym will not be the subject of a complete recovery: “For economic reasons it will not be possible to carry out other interventions – necessary, underlines the resolution – for the complete restoration of the premises in question. The planned interventions will allow the manager to reuse these spaces, aware that with other resources other interventions will have to be carried out which will concern, for example, external fixtures or internal finishes”. Overall, considering the technical expenses, VAT and the amounts for the design, the total of the interventions reaches 210 thousand euros.
