PALERMO – Un new, sensational, blackout at the regional health department seems to be the metaphorical image of the dark moment of Sicilian healthcare which, still, did not appoint new general managers (those in office are still extraordinary commissioners) and which, according to those in the know, is moving towards a new post-election “earthquake”.
The fault in the electrical system
The blackout was caused by a fault in the electrical system obsolete occurred already two days ago. The work of managers and officials spread across the nine floors of the building in Piazza Ottavio Ziino has become rather problematic.
A failure similar to the one that occurred less than a year ago. And today, as then, it was athe complex search for a spare part began which allows normality to be restored while waiting for the owners of the building to carry out a modernization of the system.
For the moment there is a buffer, at least in the morning hours. There is a generator made available by the Civil Protection of the Region which allows computers and elevators to work but not air conditioning.

The new managers
As for the new managerschosen at the end of January but still commissioners, it had already been known for some time that the intention was to stall until after the elections.

But now the air has become heavy. The Hon. Margherita La Rocca Ruvolo, just a few days ago, he presented a question to the Ars raising a case that would concern Salvatore Iacolinogeneral director of the department and “strong man” of Sicilian healthcare.
The question to the Ars
In the question reference is made to the competition notice dated March 2023. To the art. 3 among the requirements is that “of not having been, as a public and/or private employee, dismissed for just cause or dismissed”.
Rocca Ruvolo hypothesizes the possibility that this requirement was missing, considering that Iacolino “with a provision of April 2021, it had been declared dismissed as administrative director of the ASP of Syracuse for repeated violation of contractual and legal provisions”.
We will see the effect of this question in a few days parliamentarian who, however, announces lightning and thunder in the healthcare sky.
Political discontent
It matters little that, according to some, the discontent of La Rocca Ruvolo is exacerbated by political factors. Iacolino, in essence, would have “trespassed”, campaigning in the Agrigento area for Edy Tamajo (candidate in Forza Italia as La Rocca Ruvolo).
As if that wasn’t enough c‘the situation still needs to be assessed Giuseppe Laganga Senzio. The ASP commissioner in Catania was involved last month in the legal case concerning the private clinical center “NemoSouth” (the councilor was also there Giovanna Volo among those under investigation).
Ready for a new waltz
Laganga’s confirmation as head of the Catania ASP (one of the “valuable pieces” of the system) is anything but a given. A real waltz of the seats is already being hypothesized with objectively unpredictable outcomes. With some of the other designated CEOs seriously risking their “job”.
