According to the actor, who he will also play in the live action Maui the demigod of the sea, filming should start this year. Dwayne Johnson responded to a user’s question via Instagram, confirming that there isn’t much left until filming begins. The fan asked the actor for news on Moana, the sequel and live action. The animated sequel to Moana will be released this holiday season while we will be filming the live action this year.

The flesh-and-blood film is intended to be a faithful remake of the animated classic, and Dwayne Johnson will reprise his co-starring role. To date, however, we don’t know who will play Moana. What is certain is that Auli’i Cravalho, the character’s original voice, will not be joining the project. The actress made it known through a long post via Instagram, explaining that she was ready to hand over the baton to another young talent. In the meantime, however, she will be treated to a welcome return to Oceania, as she will take part in the animated sequel. Lin-Manuel Miranda will once again work on the songs for the live action remake of Moana, but will not return for the animated sequel.
