Disney is grappling with the universe of Oceania. If on the one hand he announced the creation of a sequels unexpected released in theaters in November 2024 with a new adventure by Moanaon the other hand it guaranteed the interest in creating a live action film which will also involve Dwayne Johnson. The Moana franchise is expanding. After the success of the first chapter released in theaters in 2016, Disney rated a Sequel TV series which then unexpectedly transformed into a second cinematic chapter arriving in November 2024. In the meantime, the Studios are working on a live action which should arrive in cinemas during 2025, barring changes in programming. In this regard, Dwayne Johnson revealed that filming of the flesh-and-blood project will begin soon. But when? According to the actor, who he will also play in the live action Maui the demigod of the sea, filming should start this year. Dwayne Johnson responded to a user’s question via Instagram, confirming that there isn’t much left until filming begins. The fan asked the actor for news on Moana, the sequel and live action. The animated sequel to Moana will be released this holiday season while we will be filming the live action this year.
The flesh-and-blood film is intended to be a faithful remake of the animated classic, and Dwayne Johnson will reprise his co-starring role. To date, however, we don’t know who will play Moana. What is certain is that Auli’i Cravalho, the character’s original voice, will not be joining the project. The actress made it known through a long post via Instagram, explaining that she was ready to hand over the baton to another young talent. In the meantime, however, she will be treated to a welcome return to Oceania, as she will take part in the animated sequel. Lin-Manuel Miranda will once again work on the songs for the live action remake of Moana, but will not return for the animated sequel.
