On Saturday 25 May in Capriolo, hosted at the Bcc Auditorium, the big party was held with the award ceremony of the winners which concluded the third edition of the Page Masters reading tournament, promoted and organized by the West Bresciano Library System, of which the City of Palazzolo sull’Oglio is the lead body. A tournament organized in collaboration with the Sociocultural Cooperative, in the person of the librarian Lisa Manini, contact person for this project.
The competition, dedicated to the first and second classes of the lower secondary schools (middle schools) of the Municipalities belonging to the System, saw the participation of 56 classes, for a total of 1200 girls and boys from Adro, Capriolo, Cologne, Iseo, Marone, Paderno Franciacorta, Palazzolo, Paratico, Pisogne, Pontoglio, Provaglio d’Iseo and Sale Marasino.
The competition started last October, when meetings were held to present the dedicated bibliography to each registered class: 25 books selected among the best quality editorial novelties for this age group.
At the beginning of 2024 the actual competition then began, with quizzes, questions and games on the various plots of the books read.
The four classes that received the highest scores then faced each other for a face-to-face challenge, all against all, which took place at the Rita Levi Montalcini Auditorium of the Enrico Fermi State School in Palazzolo, last Thursday 16 May.
Here too the girls and boys had to face various questions and games – including quizzes, crosswords and anagrams on the plots and characters of the books – at the end of which the final ranking was drawn up.
The 1st C of Provaglio and the 1st B of Cologne took first place ex aequo. Second place went to the 2nd B also from Cologne, while the 3rd place was the 2nd E from Marone.
The four classes were rewarded with vouchers for the purchase of volumes for the benefit of the school libraries of their schools, and each winner was given a book, with great satisfaction from the teaching staff and the numerous parents present as chaperones .
The classes were rewarded during the final party by Guido Sgardoli, author of children’s books of national caliber, who was interviewed by those present and finally performed the copy signing, acclaimed by the children as a star.
«Page Masters, now in its third, highly attended edition, represents a real flagship for our System – commented the President of the West Bresciano Library System, as well as Councilor for Cultural Planning of the City of Palazzolo, Marina Bertoli -.
Of course, the good placement of the school groups in the competition gives us a lot of satisfaction, but even more so is the joy of having seen so many children, as many as 1200, become passionate about reading during the school year thanks to the tournament. Congratulations to everyone!”.
