A story in texts and images, 15 years after the 2009 earthquake, which reveals a city whose history goes beyond visible traces, between ancient and hidden memories, archetypes and reverberations of authentic culture. “The Secret Eagle was born 15 years after the earthquake as a symbolic journey into the history and shining past of the city: a narrative interweaving that ties together historical events, traditions, anecdotes and ancient memories”, declared Pelliccione, “The Secret Eagle reveals the most hidden, least known part of a city that preserves treasures, symbols, traditions that are lost in the mists of time, but which still awaken fascinating suggestions today”.

In the 40 chapters that make up the book, there appear, in rapid succession, ancestral signs kept in the basilicas, singers and coats of arms, the ringing of weapons in the bloody battles for the liberation struggles, in the shadow of the access doors to the immemorial city of L’Aquila. And again, Knights Templar and saints, rulers of the Spanish Kingdom, the tradition of wool art and sheep tracks, weaving canvases of memories. The assonance of 99 resonates in the clear gushing of the Rivera water, in the castles founded by Frederick’s decree. L’Aquila, new Jerusalem, in the imperial intuition of Frederick II of Swabia with the city plan that follows the lines of the Neapolitan Naples, according to the intuition of Pico Fonticulano. Plays of light and ancestral coincidences, miracles and mysteries chase each other between the pages.

A book full of suggestions and mysticism, which lead the reader by the hand to discover “an Eagle hidden from most people”, a heritage of ancient narratives and historical passages, all to be revealed. “A tribute to the city of L’Aquila, in the year of its proclamation as Italian Capital of Culture 2026”, states the author, “where narration, memory and sense of place come together”.
