After an absence that lasted quite a few weeks, Piero Fassino finally reappeared in Ramallah. That’s right. And he did so on the occasion of the four-day mission, carried out in Israel and Palestine, as president of the Middle East commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. «After nine months of war which subjected the Israeli and Palestinian populations to unspeakable suffering, a qualitative leap in the action of the international community is immediately necessary without further delay to obtain, as requested by the UN Security Council, the liberation of the hostages, the ceasefire, the forwarding of the necessary humanitarian aid to the population of Gaza. And so, to avoid a further escalation of war and pave the way for a path that leads to a political solution to the conflict”, declared the PD deputy, for whom it is, then, “urgent to obtain the cessation of the Lebanese attacks in the North of Israel allowing the over one hundred thousand displaced Israelis to return to their homes.”

In short, the representative of the Democratic Party has forcefully returned to the scene, dealing with international issues and in particular the delicate Middle Eastern issue, after the well-known troubles, to use a euphemism, linked to what was immediately renamed as “the perfume affair », with the representative of the Democratic Party investigated by the Civitavecchia Prosecutor’s Office for the alleged theft of a bottle of Chanel chance, last April, in the duty free shop at Fiumicino airport. Fassino was waiting to catch his flight to Strasbourg, where he was to preside over the work of the Middle East commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. For his part, the person concerned had spoken of a simple distraction, relating to a phone call he was making, to justify the gesture of having placed in the pocket of his jacket, “while waiting to go to the checkout”, the packaging of the French perfume he had purchased for his wife.
Version that would contrast with that provided by the surveillance images. An affair that had sparked quite a bit of controversy, and an incredible media outcry, with the company that manages the shops of the major Capitoline airport having denied, last late May, the rumors regarding a negotiation with the former mayor of Turin for the withdrawal of the complaint for attempted theft.

Returning to the mission in Israel and Palestine, we read in a note, «Fassino had numerous meetings in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv with the Foreign Minister, the president of the Knesset, the presidents of the parliamentary commissions and political groups. In Ramallah, Fassino held talks with ministers of the Palestinian National Authority and with the president of the National Council. Fassino also visited Kibbutz Nir Oz and the Nova Festival camp where Hamas perpetrated the massacre on October 7. And to express solidarity and closeness, Fassino met the families of the hostages and the displaced families of northern Lebanon.”
Moreover, in the last three weeks, Fassino had limited himself to intervening in the political debate mostly using the tool of social media, and Russia. Yesterday, then, here was the press release certifying a newfound, renewed activism, moreover on an international stage, of the PD parliamentarian after the silence following the affair of the Fiumicino airport, the now famous Fassino-gate.
