“Make America Great Again” was the campaign slogan with which Donald Trump achieved an unexpected success over Democrat Clinton in 2016. A motto that probably found its way into Viktor Orbán’s heart: theHungary he has in fact chosen “Make Europe Great Again” as a slogan to inaugurate his rotating European presidency which will start on July 1st and end on December 31st 2024.
The logo chosen by Hungary recalls Rubik’s cube, the architect born in Budapest eighty years ago. But not only. In the past, the program of the Hungarian European semester was also revealed, but the attention of reporters was directed precisely at the Trumpian motto. Interviewed by journalists, the Hungarian Minister for European Affairs János Boka underlined that “describes the idea that Europe is capable of becoming an independent global player in this changing world”. Then on the Trumpian echoes: “You have no sense of déjà vu because of Trump’s slogan. I don’t know if Donald Trump ever wanted to make Europe great again.”.
“Hungary assumes the Presidency of the Council of the European Union at a time of extraordinary circumstances and challenges”we read in the premises of the plan Hungarian, which places emphasis on “delay” of Brussels “compared to its global competitors”. Among the main problems of the old continent, Orban’s country highlights “illegal migration, international supply vulnerabilities, natural disasters, the effects of climate change and the impact of climate change and the impact of demographic trends”.
But not only. Bóka remarked that Budapest will use his presidency to introduce a new competitive agricultural agreement “farmer-focused”. Then, on the migrant dossier, necessary “more efficient protection of external borders, manage the root causes of migration and improve repatriation policies”.
At the same time, he continued, there will be an active effort to continue the progress of EU enlargement and“we want to take substantial steps regarding Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine”.
