Disappearance
Emile, originally from a small village in the Bouches-du-Rhône region, the Bouches-du-Rhône, had just arrived in the hamlet of Haut-Vernet, in the Alpes de Haute Provence, for a family stay with his grandparents, when he disappeared on 8 July 2023. The child was playing in the garden of the house, among a group of about twenty houses, when he apparently escaped the vigilance of his family, who immediately contacted the authorities. Gendarmes and firefighters immediately mobilized and went looking for him, and a first judicial investigation was opened in the Digne-les-Bains area. Despite an enormous deployment of forces, only one lead emerged then. Two residents said they saw the child walking down a street in the hamlet around 5pm: one said he was going downhill, the other in the opposite direction.
Hypothesis
All hypotheses are open. Émile’s death may have been caused by a accident happened to the child when he was alone, but also by the intervention of others, including the possible willingness to kill. The village will remain isolated throughout the week as the search for more remains of the child. Two days before the discovery, a reconstruction of the events of the day of the disappearance had been organized with 17 people, including those present in July last year.
The family
