Political chaos and, probably, longer times regarding the new governance of Rai. That Giampaolo Rossi, current CEO, close to Fratelli d’Italia and Giorgia Meloni, will become the new CEO is the only certain thing. For the rest, there are a number of complications. The conference of group leaders of the Chamber met yesterday and did not include the vote of the Viale Mazzini Board of Directors in the month of July. This does not mean that the Montecitorio calendar cannot be changed. For the moment, however, the presentation of the new schedules, which will be held in Naples on 19 July and which was supposed to be the debut of the new Rai top management, should still be entrusted to the outgoing governance, led by Roberto Sergio. And continuous meetings are underway at this time, on the seventh floor of Viale Mazzini, and inside and outside the room of Director General Rossi, to define the autumn schedules in which the “highly censored” Serena Bortone will have a broadcast (not on Saturday evening and perhaps the program will deal with cultural heritage), Max Giletti it will be on Mondays on RaiTre (Report on Sundays), Maria Latella will have a space and Giovanni Minoli, Marco Liorni and Veronica Pivetti return.
But the political issue is the most interesting. The government parties currently have other priorities (top jobs in Europe and appointments in other investee companies) and the Rai structures, which everyone is wondering about and about which each of the centre-right partners has many appetites that do not coincide with those of the allies, could be decided in October. Also because, to complicate things, the legal process for appointing the members of the Board of Directors could be frozen until October 21st by a decision of the Council of State. A hot summer is therefore expected around the dying horse at the entrance to the Prati palace.
The political chaos is due to this: Fratelli d’Italia will have the new CEO, Rossi; Forza Italia will have Simona Agnes as president of Rai; while the general manager will be a technician (three eligible candidates: Roberto Sergio, Felice Ventura, Marco Brancadoro) and not a figure considered close to the League, i.e. Marcello Ciannamea, who now directs Prime Time, i.e. Sanremo and much more and very important.
THE RESTLESS
The Carroccio is very restless because he feels excluded from the command bridge. And he attributes to Meloni – «he only wants her to be in charge», say the Northern League supporters – this conventio ad excludendum. However, in via della Scrofa, in the FdI headquarters, they quietly point out as follows: «Throughout newspapers, corporate and genre publications, there are just six FdI area directors. Elly Schlein meanwhile is inclined, even if many in the party tell her that it would be a mistake, to give up the place on the board of directors reserved for the PD, to favor the entry – part of the green and left alliance – of Roberto Natale who is very expert in Rai politics and She could be more useful to the cause of the left, they say in the Nazarene, than the outgoing Democratic Party councilor, Bria, judged to be less than satisfactory. Sending Christmas to the Board of Directors is also a way, they reason in Elly’s inner circle, to compact the wide field. The FdI councilor will most likely be Valeria Falcone, who was Meloni’s spokesperson at the Ministry of Youth and is now in charge of external relations at Enel. For M5S, the confirmation of Alessandro Di Majo, they count that he often sides with the right: which makes the Dems furious. The councilor in proportion to Rai employees will still be Davide Di Pietro. And here is the League again: an all-Vareso derby between Casarin and Marano as new councilors.
We will have to wait a little longer for the vote on the Supervisory Board, but three years ago this procedure was scheduled just a week in advance. And therefore, even if there is now a postponement, this postponement can be modified. Sudden accelerations could occur, as our local politics teaches.
In so much uncertainty, however, keep an eye out for something new on the schedule. The format that will be broadcast in place of the successful Fiorello slot on RaiDue will be called Binario Due. The creator of the new show is Angelo Mellone, director of Day Time, and it will be a live entertainment program that will be broadcast from the Tiburtina station in Rome with the participation of the people.
