Finally the long-awaited reunion… but it’s not what we expected

Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson returned to the set of the beloved comedy to film a fun commercial. Fans who were hoping for something more were disappointed.

Some weeks ago Jesse Tyler Ferguson he had posted some photos on his Instagram page that suggested that he was back on the set of Modern Family four years after the beloved ABC comedy ended. Theories about a possible cast reunion immediately crowded the web and now we discover that, in fact, there was a reunion. It’s just a shame that it was a publicity stunt set up by Meta, specifically by the well-known messaging app Whatsapp. The commercial, in which Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson reprise their roles as Phil and Claire Dunphy and Cameron Tucker and Mitchell Pritchett, it’s a lot of fun. But it will certainly leave fans who were hoping for a return or a reboot of the comedy disappointed.

Modern Family: The commercial that brings the Pritchett-Dunphy family back together

In the commercial we find the Pritchett-Dunphys in Phil and Claire’s living room, perfectly reconstructed just as it was in the series. Everything goes smoothly until Mitchell realizes that the family has excluded him from a Whatsapp group. Cameron asks Phil and Claire if they saw a “precious” photo that Haley (played by Sarah Hyland on the show) sent her twins, Poppy and George. “Show me!” Mitchell says as Phil tells him to check the photo “in the group chat.” Things get ugly when Claire gives her husband a worried look and the two realize that Mitchell isn’t aware of her.

“Did you start a family chat without me?” asks Mitchell, pointing the finger at his family and shouting: “Shame!”. Claire tells her brother that the family didn’t include him because of the “blurry photos” and “weird likes” they get from him, because her cell phone isn’t the same brand as theirs. All’s well that ends well, though, when in the final scene Mitchell and Cameron are in bed and finally both included in the family chat.

Modern Family turns 15: (real) reunion in sight?

This autumn Modern Family will blow out 15 candles and many fans believe it is the perfect opportunity to organize a reunion with the actors. Interviewed by TVInsiderrecently Ed O’Neill, the interpreter of the head of the family Jay Pritchett, said he feels a bit of aversion towards these reunions. However he admitted: “I’m open to it. I like everyone involved, so I wouldn’t be the guy to say no if everyone else wanted to do it.” Speaking of group chats, though, Sofia Vergara, interpreter of Jay’s wife Gloria Pritchett, had joked that Ed O’Neill himself had not been so good at maintaining contact with his old Modern Family colleagues via a shared chat. “It takes up to 26 weeks to respond to messages and at that point no one remembers what we were talking about,” the Jimmy Fallon guest actress said a few months ago. We don’t know if other similar operations are planned, but fortunately the cast members are on excellent terms and have met several times in recent years for dinners or social occasions. We’ll see if they get back together in front of the cameras, maybe not for a simple commercial.
