It’s the summer of price increases. From hotels to telepass, everything will cost more. Those preparing to leave in summer 2024 will have to take into account rising rates for transport and hotels, beach establishments, parks and museums. Consumer associations have been repeating this for days in view of this year’s summer holidays. And there is no shortage of special prices reported by Codacons. Prices “out of control”, says the association, which refers (we say it in advance) to luxury accommodations, exclusive resorts, presidential suites and private yacht holidays – not a holiday for everyone, to put it mildly. In this case we are talking about arriving prices up to 77 thousand euros for a week in an exclusive villa in Positano and 63 thousand euros in Sardinia.

The prices of exclusive holidays

So here they are, the luxury prices found by Codacons. In addition to staying at Positano in exclusive villa from 77 thousand euros for the week of August 10-17, also noteworthy are the 54 thousand euros for a presidential suite in a facility in Bressanonei 39 thousand euros for a week on a private yacht in Porto Cervo, over 37 thousand euros for a villa in Taormina and 30 thousand euros for a chalet in Ortisei. In short, prices not for “ordinary mortals”.

Even the airfares of distant and exotic destinations they rise to abnormal levels and beyond the reach of the current account. Codacons found that “a plane ticket from Rome to Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea) it can cost up to August, depending on the carrier chosen and the connections, 19.640 euro; up to 15,970 euros for the flight to Honiara (island of Guadalcanal), 15,152 euros for the flight to Apia (island of Samoa)”.

Summer of price increases, rates that go up

It will be said that these are rates for a narrow niche of the ultra-privileged. For all the others there are “normal” price increases, it should be noted by taking a look at the price monitoring done by Codacons.

Meanwhile, the 2024 summer holidays start with price increases for those who travel by car. Starting today, the rates for Telepass, with the Basic offer going from 1.83 to 3.90 per month (+113%), the Easy offering going from 2.50 to 4.64 euros per month (+85.6%), the Plus from 3 at 4.90 euros per month (+63.3%). Tolls and parking meters are also more expensive, rising by +2.1% on an annual basis in the last month.

The prices of the Domestic airline tickets in a single month increased by 24.4%+7.3% international ones, while i trains they mark a +9.3% on 2023but if we only consider flight fares for the central week of August to the main Italian and foreign seaside resorts, the price increases are in the order of +20% compared to the summer of last year.

Accommodations are also increasing in price. The price lists of hotels, holiday homes, B&Bs and accommodation facilities in general, always for the period of August, the main Italian locations record increases of between +15% and +25%.

“This – explains Codacons – is also due to the effect of “dynamic prices” (similar to those of airplanes) adopted by a growing number of facilities: as demand grows, the rates of stays increase automatically”.

They increase, but less, beach resorts, which increased by 5% in August, and the prices of parks, museums and gardens, which have risen by +2.1% in the last month. Some are simply not holidays for everyone. Others will still be holidays that are difficult to access for families already tested by the inflationary surge of recent years.
