The Oscar-winning actress reveals the call from John Krasinski that convinced her to star in the prequel film to A Quiet Place.
A Quiet Place: Day 1prequel to A Quiet Place (2018) by John Krasinski has finally been in theaters since June 26th, and is already winning over critics and audiences. Written and directed by Michael Sarnoski (Pig – Rob’s Plan), the film stars Lupita Nyong’o as Sam, a New York woman who suddenly finds herself at the center of the alien invasion.
The Oscar-winning actress, in a recent interview, talked about how Krasinski, director and screenwriter of the first two films, convinced her to join the A Quiet Place franchise.

A Quiet Place: Day 1 is the third chapter of the saga started in 2018 by John Krasinski. The prequel film will continue to explore humanity’s fight against the alien invasion, going back to the first days of their arrival on Earth and the subsequent catastrophe. Speaking about his character, Nyong’o ha svelato in a recent interview for RadioTimes come John Krasinki approached her to play the lead role of the prequel film.
“He was the first point of contact with this film. We had a Zoom call and he explained to me in great detail why he wanted to make another film in this franchise. What he told me was that he wasn’t interested in continuing with the franchise unless it could lead to new avenues. He is very interested in expanding the potential of the franchise, but at the same time the potential of the horror genre for the saga and for the genre itself“. The actress also explained how the desire to try to bring new ways to the horror genre led Krasinski to choose the young director Michael Sarnoski, who had only one film behind him before A quiet place. “That’s why he teamed up with someone like Michael, who is a young director, and who had only made one film before this..”
A Quiet Place: Day 1 is in all Italian cinemas and stars Nyong’o, alongside Joseph Quinn (who we will see in cinemas in November Gladiator II), the cast also includes the well-known actor Djimon Hounsou, who we had already seen in A Quiet Place Part II.
