THE HEARING

Commitment to trial for road homicide for the urban planning councilor of the Municipality of Latina Annalisa Muzio following the accident in which she was involved in 2021. This was decided yesterday morning by the judge for the preliminary hearing of the Court of Latina Giuseppe Cario, accepting the request of the prosecution represented in the courtroom by the public prosecutor Marina Marra.

The case at issue in the criminal proceedings concerns the death of 75-year-old retired music teacher Giorgio Pedaci who, on the evening of September 14, 2021, was crossing the street on Via Capograssa, near the Park Hotel, when the car driven by Muzio – who was a candidate for mayor of the Pontine capital at the time – hit him.

The man had thus lost his balance and fallen, violently hitting his head on the asphalt. Despite immediate aid and transport by ambulance to the Santa Maria Goretti Pedaci hospital, due to the serious cranial trauma he had suffered, he had never regained consciousness and had died in the intensive care unit after about a month of hospitalization. The politician of Fare Latina had therefore arrived at the registration in the register of suspects with the accusation of road homicide.

Yesterday morning during the preliminary hearing, the Prosecutor’s Office requested her committal for trial, while specifying, in the request containing the charge, that the victim had violated the Highway Code by crossing without using the pedestrian crossing that was less than 100 meters from her position. A circumstance that could somehow ease the position of the accused. The defense, represented by the lawyer Renato Archidiacono, instead asked not to proceed against his client. In the criminal proceedings, ten people have asked and obtained to join the civil action: these are the professor’s partner, a cousin and eight other family members. At the end of the council chamber, the preliminary hearing judge Cario accepted the prosecution’s request and committed Muzio to trial. The trial will begin on April 10 of next year before the sole judge of the Court of Latina Enrica Villani.

“We await the trial with great confidence and serenity – commented the lawyer Archidiacono at the conclusion of the preliminary hearing – during which we will demonstrate the total lack of responsibility of my client, also bringing to the courtroom the results of a series of technical investigations to support this thesis”.
