Aleix Espargarò will not be at the start of the Dutch Grand Prix which will start today at 2.00 pm. The eighth round of the 2024 MotoGP World Championship, therefore, will not see the Aprilia team rider on the starting grid who paid a very high price for what happened in yesterday’s Sprint Race.

What exactly happened? During the final lap of the short-distance race, the Spaniard crashed badly at turn 15 (the last one before the final chicane) ending up off course and then being catapulted into the Dutch gravel. Slipped at around 200 kmh of speed which left heavy aftermath.

Alex Espargaro he actually fractured his right hand in the impacts with the gravel and had to give up today’s race. After having also missed this morning’s warm-up, therefore, the Aprilia team’s standard-bearer will also be out in the long race. Here is his message released on social media: “Unfortunately I won’t be able to compete today, the fracture in my right hand is too painful. I will do everything in the next few days to recover in time for the German Grand Prix weekend.”

It will really be a race against time for the Granollers native. The German Grand Prix on the Sachsenring track will take place next weekend, the one preceding the summer holidays. Will it make sense to push the pace? Perhaps, for a driver not involved in the title battle, it would make more sense to wait until the return to the track at Silverstone on August 2-4 to allow his right hand to recover 100%.
