White, elegant in its essentiality – some would say “iconic” -, beautiful. It is the jersey that Promocuneo, in agreement with the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Cuneo and the Casa Galimberti museum, designed for the thirty-fifth edition of the international cycling granfondo La Fausto Coppi to remember Duccio Galimberti 80 years after his killing on December 3, 1944. “We were busy with an inspection of Madonna del Colletto, a symbolic place of the Resistance where Duccio Galimberti, Dante Livio Bianco and other partisans created the Italia Libera band, and the connection with Fausto Coppi, of which Madonna del Colletto is the last ascent, was immediate”, explains Roberto Punzi, artistic director of Promocuneo. This is how the idea of a commemorative jersey was born, with graphics created by Officine Mattio, to remember Duccio Galimberti 80 years after his death, as a tribute to the three members of the Fausto Coppi who rode the most kilometres to get to Cuneo.

Having discarded the initial suggestion of a stop during the event for the delivery – at that point for the participants «Galimberti» is simply the name of the square of the long-awaited finish line – today at 5 pm on the stage in the village the three New Zealand cyclists Craig Lange and Martin Allen, from Christchurch, and Dean Walsh, from Wellington, will receive the jersey from the Councillor for Culture of the Municipality of Cuneo Cristina Clerico.

In the wake of what the Fausto Coppi shirt has done from 1987 to today, this will bring the history and legacy of the hero lawyer who, with his speech on 26 July 1943, opened the doors to the Italian Resistance thousands of kilometers away from Cuneo . Three – almost – All White cyclists who will pedal on the roads of the homeland of the All Blacks, then you mention the bridges that Fausto Coppi does not create. After the delivery, the three New Zealanders will take a short guided tour of the Casa Galimberti museum. The shirt, produced in a limited edition, is available at the price of 73 euros; for information, 0171/698388. On Friday 26 July at 9.30 pm, on the eighty-first anniversary of Duccio Galimberti’s speech, the Giovanni Toselli Theater Academy will stage the show «The voice of courage» on the balcony of the Casa Galimberti museum.
