MESSINA – A Papardo social health worker was brutally attacked yesterday morning by the son of an elderly patient. The health worker was violently punched, suffering head and facial trauma and a broken tooth. The report was delivered to the emergency room this morning. The victim was allegedly attacked in the department because he was accused – according to an initial reconstruction – of having responded rudely to the patient the day before. A circumstance denied by the worker. Yesterday morning, the elderly man allegedly pointed out the worker to his son and the man lashed out at the health worker. After the attack, the perpetrator of the violence left the hospital and disappeared without a trace. Security guards and a permanent police officer intervened on the scene.
Livio Andronico, general secretary of the Uil-Fpl of Messina, underlines: “A very serious fact that demonstrates how our appeals have fallen on deaf ears. Workers in the healthcare sector are continually exposed to risks to their safety due to the excessive workload and above all because there is no adequate security service. On behalf of the entire Uil-Fpl of Messina, I express our solidarity and announce the formation of a civil party against the attacker. I hope that Papardo himself will take a clear position against this absolutely serious fact.”
