The initiative is linked to the Tour de France which, this weekend after starting from Florence, will cross a good part of our Region.

Dutch state TV in connection with Modena

MODENA – This year the Tour de France starts in Italy, with the first stage Florence-Rimini, and the cycling race arrives in Emilia on Sunday 30 June, with the second stage Cesenatico-Bologna. This is an extraordinary opportunity for international promotion also for the Modena area, as demonstrated by the decision of the Dutch public television Nos which on Sunday evening will broadcast live from Modena, with a studio set up in front of the Duomo, the in-depth talk show “Tour de France – De Avondetappe”.

Unesco site

The broadcast is characterized by giving ample space, alongside sporting comments on the race, to the story of the territories crossed by the Tour, enhancing the historical, artistic and architectural heritage of the cities, starting, in the case of Modena, from the Romanesque complex of the UNESCO site Piazza with Grande, Ghirlandina and Duomo chosen not by chance as the scenic backdrop of the program.

The Municipality is collaborating on the initiative, with the City Promotion and Tourism service, together with Modenatur and Apt.

Over one and a half million viewers

The Dutch TV show’s audience is estimated at over one and a half million viewers. “A major sporting event like the Tour represents a good opportunity to promote Modena and the area in a major international showcase – explain those responsible for promoting the city – and the Dutch market offers good tourism prospects”.

Traffic suspended

To allow the television service to be carried out, from 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 30th to 1:00 a.m. traffic will be completely suspended in the area in front of the cathedral in Corso Duomo, as well as in Corso Canalchiaro in the section between Via Bonaccorsa and Piazza Grande (except for residents and those heading to activities). Via Bonacorsa and Via Cervetta will remain passable. Parking is also prohibited, except for vehicles belonging to the event organization, on the west side of Corso Canalchiaro, between Via Bonacorsa and number 28. Signage will be positioned and will start on Friday.

Live for 45 minutes

Pedestrians will be able to circulate regularly, avoiding interfering with the set and filming. The live broadcast begins at 10pm on Sunday and ends at 10.45pm, but during the day the television operators will create images in the city center to be broadcast in the evening.
