Three indictments for the death of Donato Greco, the 55-year-old worker from Pozzolengo who in March 2020 was hit and killed by a lorry while working on the construction site: the legal representative of the company Ecotraffic srl, the delegate of the employer in health and safety matters on behalf of Carron Costruzioni spa and the site safety coordinator will now have to answer for their actions before the judge.

This is what the preliminary hearing judge Antonio Serra Cassano decided at the end of the preliminary hearing held on Wednesday morning in court in Mantua: the judge also granted the shortened rite to the 53-year-old who was driving the heavy vehicle that hit the victim that day.

Hit and killed by a truck

The drama took place on 4 March 2020. Donato Greco was working on the Sp236 Goitese, in the Cavriana area: the construction site involved the connection between the existing provincial road and the new Guidizzolo ring road. The worker from Pozzolengo was busy directing traffic: it was at that moment that he was hit by a lorry and thrown over 20 meters away. Unfortunately, the timely intervention of the emergency services was of no avail: Donato Greco died instantly from the very serious injuries he sustained.

The pain of his wife and daughters

“The driver of the lorry did not reduce the speed enough to notice dad and be able to stop the vehicle in time – comment the victim’s daughters and wife: the family members have entrusted themselves to Giesse Risarcimento Danni, a group specialized in the management of road and workplace accidents resulting in death; already obtained, out of court, compensation for the damages suffered -. Even with the reported presence of a construction site and a dangerous situation, it appears he was driving at a speed exceeding the 50 km/h limit: this inattention, unfortunately, cost our beloved Donato his life.” For Giesse, “the space available to the worker was also contested, extremely limited due to the shoulder on the side of the road, so he was forced to lean out and occupy part of the roadway”.
