Accident on the E45 in Sansepolcro, consequences on traffic | News

A road accident on the E45, fortunately without serious consequences, which however had repercussions on the city traffic in Sansepolcro. This was the unexpected event that characterized the morning of Thursday 27 June for several people who, like every day, went to their workplace. The accident, which occurred shortly before 7am, involved two small cars along the southern carriageway of the artery at progressive kilometer 137, as soon as you enter from Sansepolcro south in the direction of San Giustino.

For reasons still under investigation, the cars collided and one of them overturned. The two women behind the wheel, one aged 34 and the other 59 years old, were transported under yellow code to the emergency room of the Valtiberina Hospital. The Sansepolcro medical vehicle, the Biturgen Red Cross ambulance, the firefighters and the police intervened on site.

Until well after 9am, when the E45 was also cleared of the damaged vehicles, traffic suffered inevitable blocks and slowdowns, both along the E45, where a queue formed for a few kilometres, and in the urban center of Sansepolcro due to the establishment of the Mandatory exit at the southern Sansepolcro junction with return to San Giustino. Result: those who should have gone to the workplace found themselves stuck in the chaos and therefore lost in some cases up to 30-40 minutes.

The problem has re-emerged, in a context – that of Via Senese Aretina in the Forche area and up to the E45 junctions – in which flows already suffer slowdowns every morning, as it is a crucial point that connects the city with the industrial area. If we add to this the problems caused by the accident, the situation becomes further complicated. Wouldn’t it be appropriate to study an alternative solution in anticipation of accidents – or various unforeseen events – which end up paralyzing traffic, since vehicles converge on the only existing route?
