The Biancoceleste’s wife spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport to talk about the emotions she experienced after the goal against Croatia

He is the cover man of the national team, he will be one of the pillars of the Lazio. There is Mattia Zaccagni at the center of sports news these days and, for the occasion, at the microphones of Gazzetta dello Sport It intervened Chiara Nasti, wife of the Biancoceleste footballer. These are her words. “Do you believe it? I didn’t immediately realize that Mattia had scored, I’m almost at the end of my pregnancy and certain emotions are risky. (Laughs) Shortly before the start I thought: what if Mattia scores and I give birth out of joy?”.

Chiara, can you tell us about that special last minute of Italy-Croatia?

I saw the match in Naples, at dinner in a restaurant, with my son Thiago, my parents and my sister Angela. When I saw Mattia entering the pitch I understood from his look that something good could happen. I can’t explain it, you can feel certain things. So I waited for it to happen“.

I only remember the roar in the restaurant and the happiness of all of us. It was magic. At the end of the match I video called him. It was a beautiful thing: he still had the tension of the match, I was crying…“.

What did you write to each other at the end of the game?

Ours was a very intimate message, which retraced a somewhat dark moment from a few months ago. A period which however brought us the discovery of the arrival of our little girl. I pointed out to him that things in life change. You just need to work hard and know how to wait for them. Mattia scored a decisive goal, for me one of the best goals of this European Championship. The wheel has turned. And he must remember to always be proud of who he is and what he does. Mattia knows it: we will always be there“.

How many times do you talk to each other a day?

We talk whenever he can. When he left we made a promise to each other, telling ourselves that the best thing would be to see each other after a month. Only in this way would he want to say that everything went well. Mattia worries about how things are going at home, he wants to know if I’m okay, if I need anything. I’m the first person he talks to in the morning, the last in the evening and the first after the games. I keep him calm and support him, I think it’s important for him“.

Do you have a ritual before every Italy match? (Laughs)

As a good Neapolitan I have all my superstitions. In this period there is in particular a WhatsApp sticker, but it is a secret between me and Mattia“.

You posted a very sweet video with your son Thiago wearing the national team shirt. Then, on her behalf, she wrote on social media: “Thank you dad for making me so proud of you, I spent a month looking at the Italy shirt, pointing to it and recognizing it while screaming BA-BA-BA. This morning when I woke up mum showed me yesterday’s goal, I’m too proud of you and I think everyone here in Italy is too…”.

Mattia and Thiago are very close. At first I just wanted to make a video to send to Mattia, but it was so beautiful, so pure that I wanted to share it. There is no greater joy for a parent than feeling the love of their children. And then I had fun writing what I think Thiago thinks“.

Mattia is experiencing one of the best moments of his career. Being called up to the national team is an indescribable achievement and he is excited“.

Italy will face Switzerland in the round of 16: are you confident?

I learned that in these tournaments every match is a story in itself. And anything can happen“.

Let’s dream: if Italy wins the European Championship, what will you and Mattia give each other?

I’m superstitious, so I don’t even dare repeat this eventuality out loud. (Laughs). Mattia asked me to wait for him, she wants to be there for the birth. The truth is that our little girl is about to be born, the family will expand and there will be four of us. Can there be a better gift?“.
