DAMAGE FROM WILDLIFE IN THE FRACTIONS OF PETTORANO: REQUEST FOR URGENT INTERVENTION

An urgent letter was sent to the regional councilor for agriculture Emanuele Imprudente, to the provincial police, to the mayor of Pettorano sul Gizio Antonio Carrara and to the ombudsman of the Abruzzo region by two residents of the Vallelarga hamlet, Domenico Ventresca and Loreta Crognale. The letter highlights the persistent problem of damage caused by wildlife, in particular wild boars and deer, in the Vallelarga area and other neighboring hamlets.

In previous years, both Ventresca and Crognale have documented damage to their agricultural land, reported to the competent authorities and also reported by this newspaper. Recently, the olive groves in the area have been damaged again, with a significant increase in the presence of wild boars and deer, including large ones, along the roads of the hamlets of Vallelarga, Ponte d’Arce and Case Papponi.

The situation has become so worrying that many residents are forced to keep their house gates closed during the day, fearing they might find themselves having lunch or dinner with a wild animal on their table. Faced with this emergency, Ventresca and Crognale urgently ask:

  1. Issuance of a trade union order for the management of public safety, in line with regional provisions which delegate the power to control and cull wild boars in inhabited centers to the municipalities.
  2. Implementation of effective and definitive solutions to prevent further intrusions of deer into the olive groves and throughout the municipal territory.

The communication was sent via email, in accordance with the art. 38 of the TUDA (Presidential Decree 445/2000), to guarantee maximum transparency and traceability of requests. In the event of a lack of positive feedback, the signatories of the letter intend to report the omission to the Minister responsible for Agricultural and Forestry Resources.

Furthermore, this request constitutes an official warning to comply, warning that future damage caused by wildlife will be subject to legal and civil protection against the entities receiving this and previous communications.

The community of Pettorano sul Gizio, united in tackling this problem, trusts in the prompt and decisive action of the competent authorities to protect agricultural resources and guarantee the safety of residents.
