Bad weather, the Secchia river continues to rise: historic flood in Modena

TO Modena the river Bucket it’s recording one of its highest levels ever, and it’s doing so in the summer. A little while ago, in Ponte Alto, the river (obstructed by debris from the Apennines) reached a level of 10 meters and 99 cm, exceeding the red threshold by 99 cm (increase of 8 cm/hour). The latest record dates back to 2020, when the river reached 11 meters and 7 cm.

As for the situation of the bridges, due to the flooding of the river Panaro the Navicello Vecchio bridge in Modena along the branch of provincial road 255 was closed to transit as a precaution. At the moment the other bridges of the provincial road network remain open, while monitoring by technicians of the situation of the roads continues .

The president of the Province of Modena Fabio Braglia underlined that “This wave of bad weather is seriously testing the provincial road network and beyond, with dozens of interventions across the entire Apennine and hilly area. I thank the precious work of the provincial technicians and operators, who since yesterday afternoon have been working incessantly to guarantee maximum passability of the roads and I recommend everyone to limit their movements to avoid potentially dangerous situations and to avoid congesting the road network, also because there are many roads which, although open to transit, are not in optimal conditions“.
