Ragusa is without water Ragusa

Ragusa – “The meeting of the 12 member municipalities of Iblea Acque was held on Thursday and the technical problems that are emerging in the area were taken stock. Meeting with the representatives of Iblea Acque which we repeated again today, Friday, in a limited form, to specifically address the situation of our city. There is suffering in the newer neighborhoods served by the Bruscè reservoir and in particular in the terminal homes of the network”.

So said yesterday the mayor of Ragusa Peppe Cassì.

“The attempt to draw more water from the wells using a more powerful pump has not been successful due to the depletion of the aquifers and the lowering of the level of the springs. Even the “additional” wells that we have taken over from Asi since last year and connected via the new water collector, are suffering the effects of the short winter and the long and dry spring of this year. For this reason and out of a collective sense of respect for those who suffer from water shortages, I have issued an ordinance that allows the use of water from the water supply exclusively for normal domestic purposes and for the exercise of artisanal and commercial activities and the provision of food and drink to the public. The withdrawal and consumption of drinking water is therefore prohibited for: − irrigating and watering the plants on your balcony or garden (if absolutely necessary, this activity can only take place between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.); − watering vegetable gardens, gardens and green areas; − washing private vehicles (if absolutely necessary with a bucket rather than a continuous jet); − washing appurtenant areas, courtyards, sidewalks and squares; − supplying ornamental fountains, basins and swimming pools; − all uses other than food, domestic and hygienic ones.

The ordinance will soon be available on the Municipality’s website. Numerous reports have also highlighted the difficulty of contacting Iblea Acque to request supply via tanker. From Monday, 2 other telephone numbers will therefore be available, active from 08.00 to 18.00. We will communicate the numbers as soon as possible. Data in hand, Iblea water has distributed water to the homes of users who have requested it, via 8 tankers that carry out this service every day. In this regard, it is recommended to avoid “preventive” requests in the presence of half-full tanks: a practice that lengthens waiting times and damages those who are truly dry. We are evaluating every possible intervention that could reduce the suffering of certain neighborhoods but, in the absence of rain, it is important to adopt responsible conduct. The ordinance issued goes precisely in this direction. At the moment there are no disruptions in services in the centre, in Ibla and in Marina”.
