The Nobile contrada del Nicchio won the dress rehearsal of the Palio on July 2. The winner was Akida scossa, because the jockey, Elias Mannucci called Turbine, fell on the rope, taking with him all the mare’s harnesses. All in all a quick move, with Civetta, Valdimontone, Leocorno, who parade away in front, slightly behind Lupa and Oca. The shaken horse del Nicchio arrives strong from the rear and takes the lead, even with some risk at the first San Martino of impacting other contradas. Fortunately everything goes smoothly, Akida gallops hard for three laps and after the explosion of the firecracker, almost as if she had realized the end of the race, she let herself be caught by the Barbareschi.
Before the dress rehearsal, the usual parade of the Carabinieri on horseback, with the emotional farewell to the children of the districts and that of the authorities, before charging forward and galloping half the way around the track.
These are the pairs formed by the assigned horses and jockeys, chosen by the Contrade themselves, for the general test.
