He was injured following an accident. And days after the accident, the Local Police of Segrate notified him of the long list of infringements. Reason? He had in fact transformed his electric bicycle into a real moped, after modifying the vehicle’s software with the aim of increasing its speed.
The accident on the cycle path
Last week, following a road accident that occurred on a cycle path, a person riding an electric bicycle had deliberately tampered with it by eliminating and altering the engine. This modification, very banal in itself, transformed the bicycle into a moped, and the consequences of this modification were many.
The long list of fines for the cyclist… “biker”
The rider was fined for driving without a license and without insurance coverage and for not wearing a helmet. Added to this was the seizure of the “tampered” vehicle and the wrongdoing in the accident.

“Tampering carried out to increase the speed and power of normal bicycles or e-bikes beyond the legal limits risks making the roads more dangerous for everyone – the Segrato Local Police said – In fact, the use of e-bikes irregular not only puts the user’s safety at risk, but also that of other cyclists, pedestrians and vehicles.”
The previous cases emerged in Cassano and Brugherio
Completely similar cases had occurred in Cassano d’Adda and Brugherio. In those circumstances, fines of 6 thousand euros were issued against the cyclists.
