The Osimo turnaround. Pirani at the photo finish, the centre-right wins: “Let’s change the city”

Francesco Pirani is the new mayor of Osimo. When yesterday, shortly after 6pm, he arrived at the town hall, he was greeted by a cheering crowd and he opened a bottle of sparkling wine before entering. He was neck and neck in the last vote, almost as per tradition in Osiman history. The centre-right candidate, Pirani, supported by his Greens, Civiche Marche, Su la testa, Fratelli d’Italia, Lista Latino, Pacto sociale per Osimo, Pirani mayor, Forza Osimo, Democratic and supportive Osimo, obtained 8,279 votes, 50 .49%, winning by 162 votes over the centre-left candidate, Michela Glorio, (8,117 votes, 49.5%). After ten years, the Civic Lists return to the government of the city, albeit with a “new” framework. The alliance with Sandro Antonelli (third candidate excluded in the first round), which brings Osimo at the center, Tratto comune, Rinasci Osimo, Osimo futuro, Progetto Osimo and Osimo Libera to support the new majority, worked. “Mathematics said that in any case the difference was very little – Pirani’s first words in the heat of the moment –. Even the swing in results from 3.30 pm onwards did not give any type of certainty, but we were sure that people could have understood our message of change and in the end, even if by a few votes, this has passed. From tomorrow (today, ed.) work will begin to bring the project to the city. Ten years have been long, conducted by the administration in an improper manner this is what the citizens also told us in the many meetings. In the first two or three months we will be focused on achieving many small things. We must culturally transform the way we govern the city, become an example of correctness and elegance”. And Sandro Antonelli: “It was a fairly complicated run-off round, right up until the end we had to fight to win the consensus of the citizens, who didn’t understand our position. They told us that we were the tipping point, I don’t know if it is the right definition, however I believe that the contribution of my coalition was fundamental”. Glorio was flying 966 votes above Pirani in the first round, but when the official nomination was signed the projection had already changed. And so it was, a “reversal”, with the right in government marking a change of pace. “A special thank you to the UDC candidates, who offered their contribution and made the difference, and to the president of the Regional Council, Dino Latini, who strongly believed in Pirani’s victory”, declared the spokesperson of the Scudocrociato then, Vittoriano Solazzi. Councilor Filippo Saltamartini, FdI MEP Carlo Ciccioli and senator Elena Leonardi arrived to offer their compliments.
