Davide Sperti, general secretary of Uilm Taranto, and Bruno Cantonetti, national secretary responsible for Uilm Leonardo sector, released a joint statement on the meeting held today in Rome, at Confindustria, with the participation of the Head of the Aerostructures Division, Dr. Bortoli, and the HR Manager Leonardo SPA, Dr. Liotti.
The meeting, expected to clarify the critical condition of the Grottaglie plant due to the crisis of the client Boeing, highlighted potential positive developments, although differences remain, especially on the method.
The main news concerns the announcement of the arrival in Grottaglie of the final line of the AW609 convertiplane, a project of the Helicopter Division intended for government and private customers, currently in the certification phase. Series production has not yet started, but there is an intention to start it at the Grottaglie plant. This news is received positively, indicating a true transformation of the site.
However, the negative note of the suspension of activities for four months remains, necessary to reduce the fuselage production buffer accumulated in the past months and years. Uilm expresses its opposition to this measure, especially in light of Boeing’s new Z60 production plan, which provides for five withdrawals per month and allows activities to be reduced without completely suspending them.
Uilm believes it is possible to find an alternative solution which does not involve the suspension of activities, but which allows the site to be kept open and to protect all workers, including those in related industries, without distinction. A solution is proposed that reconciles the need to dispose of production in the warehouse and recover spaces useful for diversification, with the need to continue working, albeit in a reduced manner.
The meeting concluded with the commitment to update the table within a week.
