Rowing, Tedoldi gold in the Senior four sculls in Varese

Leonardo Tedoldi on the top step of the podium on Lake Varese for the Italian Senior, Lightweight, Under 19 and Para Rowing championships. The event took place last weekend and saw 1000 athletes representing 97 clubs from all over Italy at the starting blocks, ready to animate the waters of the Schiranna, in the Italian challenge brought forward this year due to the approach of the Olympics of Paris in a month. The sultry heat of Saturday gave way to the rain and cold of the gloomy day of Sunday, creating many difficulties for both the competing athletes and the public on the ground.

The athlete from Samolaco, who grew up at Canottieri Retica and now works for the Fiamme Gialle, won the gold medal in the Senior four sculls with his teammates Alessandro Bonamoneta, Marco Prati and Paolo Covini. A race clearly dominated by Tedoldi and his associates, with a clear victory over Gavirate and Tirrenia Todaro. With this statement, “Leo” Tedoldi continues to gain experience in pair rowing, aimed at the next entries into the Olympic national team. Simone Sandrini, who grew up in Retica and moved to Canottieri Pescate last year, also makes it through the long process of qualifying, including heats, repechages and semi-finals. The athlete from Morbegno, despite still being Under 23, held up well against his opponents in the higher category, finishing seventh in senior singles and sixth in four pairs with Simone Fusaro, Marco Gianesin and Mattia Soldo.
