Alberto Barbera, the director of the Mostra, praised the actress, stating: “An actress of Sigourney Weaver’s caliber has few rivals. Her charismatic presence and strong temperament have imposed an image of a confident and determined woman, without ever giving up her authenticity.

The Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement is an award for a star who has built bridges between sophisticated auteur cinema and films that engage with audiences in a frank and original way, while always remaining true to themselves. The full program of the 81st Venice Film Festival will be announced on July 23.
