The municipal and provincial councilor at altitude ‘Con’, Giosué Del Vecchio, announced the request to convene a technical table with the Province, Anas, the Puglia Region and the municipalities of San Severo, San Marco in Lamis, Rignano Garganico and Apricena. , after the latest road accident which occurred last Saturday on State Road 272 at the ‘San Matteo’ intersection of provincial road 27, more commonly known as the ‘crossroads of death’.
The impact between two cars – one was proceeding towards the Gargano and the other was crossing the intersection – resulted in the injury of five people and reignited the debate on the opportunity to take serious measures, if we do not want to witness further accidents. “Life first of all” wrote Giosuè Del Vecchio on his Facebook page.
However, the incontrovertible element is that vehicles coming from both sides of the road – despite the presence of the appropriate signs – would not respect the stop sign and therefore the right of way. Nonetheless, on State Road 272 several cars speed by well exceeding the permitted speed limit of 90 km/h.
Many hypotheses have been put forward to limit the risk of accidents: from narrowing the road to speed deterrents, up to the creation of a roundabout. However, there are those who believe that it is necessary to cut the greenery on the property near the intersection”, as visibility would be reduced going up towards the Gargano.
About a year ago the regional councilor Napoleone Cera wrote to the former regional transport councilor Anita Maurodinoia asking for the convening of a technical table between the Region, Anas and the Province of Foggia.
On that stretch, on 8 September 2022, Andrea Pileo, a 28-year-old boy from Foggia, lost his life. At that same point, on 3 May 2019, in a collision between a car and a van, he lost his life a 61 year old from Bisceglie.
