The Italian Championships are the competition of Lorenzo Rota and the demonstration came directly on the afternoon of Sunday 23 June when the 29 year old from Sorisole took second place.
However, in Sesto Fiorentino the Intermarché-Wanty standard bearer achieved a small record, obtaining second place in the Italian competition for the third consecutive year, won in this case by the host Alberto Bettiol (EF Education-EasyPost).
It takes about 50 kilometers before the first escape attempt is made Tommaso Nencini (Zalf Euromobil Fior) e Federico Biagini (VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè) to which are added other riders such as the 22 year old from San Pellegrino Terme Lorenzo Milesi (Movistar Team), resumed after a few minutes.
At that point fifteen of them took off, Luca Mozzato (Arkea-B&B Hotels), Samuele Zambelli And Davide Baldaccini (Team corratec – Vini Fantini), Giovanni De Carlo (Zalf Euromobil Fior), Michael Belleri (Hopplà Petroli Firenze Don Camillo), Federico Biagini, Samuele Zoccorato, Lorenzo Conforti And Alessandro Tonelli (VF Group – Bardiani CSF – Faizanè), Filippo Conca (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team), Mirco Masters (Team Polti Kometa), Alexander Monaco (Team corratec – Vini Fantini), Matteo Zurlo (UC Trevigiani Energiapura Marchiol), Filippo Tagliani (Vini Monzon Savini Due OMZ) e Andrea Guerra (Zalf Euromobil Fior), who however only managed to gain a two minute lead before crumbling with the passage on the first climbs.
However, on Monte Morello the attempt was exhausted thanks to the attack from behind Alberto Bettiol vwho immediately took Rota on his wheels, Edoardo Zambanini (Bahrain Victorious), Marco Frigo (Israel-PremierTech) e Samuele Zoccarato (VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè).
While a small group led by follows in pursuit Filippo Ganna (Ineos-Grenadiers), still about twenty seconds away from the pacesetters, on the penultimate pass a Mount Morello Bettiol rehearses for the decisive extension, distancing Frigo.
The pursuers close in on the flat stretch up to fourteen seconds, but on the last lap the gap widens again with Bettiol taking off one kilometer from the mountain grand prix, leaving everyone on the spot.
For Rota the chase attempt carried out together with Zambanini was useless, the Tuscan won solo with seventeen seconds over the Bergamo and the 23 year old from Trentino forcing the Orobic to settle for yet another placing.
