Ferrari Purosangue wins the prestigious Compasso d’Oro

When one is born Ferrari there is always great anticipation, but few models in the history of the Cavallino have received the attention that has been dedicated to Thoroughbred. This model, in fact, represented a sort of turning point for the Maranello brand which for the first time in its history has designed an SUV. Arriving in 2022, it immediately divided lovers of the Emilian company between those who appreciated its audacity and those who, instead, immediately appreciated the scandal.

The SUV was named Purosangue by Ferrari precisely to give the world a signal: the Rossa changes shape, but under the bonnet everything remains as before. The idea of the Maranello company, in fact, from the beginning was to create an SUV that did not disavow the historical spirit of the factory created years ago by Drake.

Lots of power under the hood

The Ferrari Purosangue uses a naturally aspirated V12 petrol engine, which is mounted in a central front position. The engine in question is derived from that of the 812 Superfast. For him there is an impressive 6.5 liter displacement capable of delivering 725 HP with a torque of 716 Nm. Euro 6D approved, it is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and reaching 310 km/h top speed.

The transmission is also of the highest quality 8-speed Ferrari DCT dry sump. We also note the all-wheel drive system which is taken from the GTC4 Lusso and which features two gearboxes, an 8-speed transaxle mounted on the rear axle and one mounted on the front axle which is directly connected to the engine and has two gears. The suspensions, however, have a 48V electro-hydraulic actuator, which is present on each shock absorber and is capable of automatically adjusting height and stiffness 15 times per second.

Super prize for Thoroughbreds

Between 10 and 20 Compasso d’Oro awards are awarded every 2 years (previously every 3). This recognition is the most important and oldest given to those who distinguish themselves in industrial design. The award is a compass inspired by that of Adalbert Goeringer and the golden ratio. It is awarded by the Association for Industrial Design (ADI) and has the aim of giving value and quality to Italian design.

Over the years, many iconic models have received this important recognition. Starting in 2020, the objects that received the award are exhibited atADI Design Museum, which is located in Milan, needless to say in Piazza Compasso d’Oro 1. The 2024 ceremony was held in this very place which saw the Ferrari Purosangue as the great protagonist. The Maranello SUV, in fact, received the important award.

Flavio Manzoni, head of Ferrari design, was present at the event. The award has existed since 1954 and in recent years only four Maranello models have received this prestigious recognition: the F12 Berlinetta (2014), FXX K (2016), the Monza SP1 (2020) and precisely the Purosangue (2024). In 2022, however, the winner of the coveted Compasso in the automotive field was Pagani Huayra Roadster BC. Meanwhile in the factory we continue to work incessantly looking to the future and who knows whether the next Compasso d’Oro might arrive for the electric Ferrari, which seems ever closer.
