CIVITAVECCHIA – Waste depot on fire in Civitavecchia. Firefighters at work since around this morning at 9am for a large fire in via Attilio Bonucci, in the industrial area of the city, at a company specialized in waste recovery and disposal.
A portion of plastic waste, stored in the courtyard, caught fire for reasons still under investigation.
The men from the Bonifazi barracks immediately arrived at the site of the fire with the crew of the 17A and a support tanker, the AB17.
The extinguishing operations are challenging with the flames generating a vast blanket of smoke due to the significant quantity of waste that has caught fire.
The firefighters are taking care of with the aid of bulldozers, to the work of “breaking down” and cooling the materials involved in the flames.
The Carabinieri of the Civitavecchia Company also intervened on site. Land flames, according to what was learned, broke out in a limited area of the company. Fortunately, no one was injured. The area affected is an industrial area where fortunately there are no homes nearby. The strong smell of burning plastic could be felt in the surrounding areas.
